MeFi Hospitality Index

topic posted Thu, August 7, 2003 - 9:57 PM by  Wolf
Many of us travel. Many of us are social. Put two tastes that taste great together and we've got the MeFi Hospitality Index!

If you'd like to host a MeFite during their travels, add your name and location (and the limits of your hosting ability--from "just call me and let me know you're in town so I can go outside with my megaphone and tell you to go home" to "come live with me in sumptuous splendor for the rest of your days"--to this topic. Over at Everything2, we've got a similar index, and I've met a bunch of cool people visiting my hometown.

So, to get started, if any MeFites are visiting the Santa Barbara, California area, drop me a message and let me know. Would love to meet ya! I'd love to show off Paradise to you. One night's lodging on a hide-a-bed optional.

See, that was easy!

I am available to show folks around Provo, Salt Lake, Park City, and environs... I know the good places to eat, and even though I'm a tea-totaller, I even know the good places to drink (sorry, but I do _not_ know the good places to get any action) and depending on my current house mate situation, there's a comfy sofa bed in the living room. The more notice I get, the more hospitable I can be.

Well, I'm in Thessaloniki, Greece, so my blip on the index is not very meangingful, but Heavens, yes. If you are going to be in this neck of the global woods, get in touch. My apartment is too small for anyone to be tempted to crash more than a night or two (think lumpy sofa), but if you're here and don't get in touch I'll put you on quonsar's "special" mailing list.

Hmm.I can offer a night's lodging on a wonderfully comfortable couch and a home-prepared meal with an appropriately delectable wine/beverage in fabulous Columbia, South Carolina.

What? I thought everyone loved the South!

Well, if you get lost on your way to anywhere else in the fucking country and happen to find yourself in my area, my door is always open.

Blech. Somehow I forgot about the line breaks, and the apparent use of embedded html tags. That was supposed to be a lot more charming and hilarious. Just goes to show....

My goodness, LL, I lived in Aiken, S.C. for a few years when I was in high school... Aiken to Columbia: the trail of kudzu (and tears). Please, please eat some South Carolina barbeque in memory of me, along with a big ole glass of sweet ice tea. (Unless, of course, you are vegetarian, in which case move out of there, poste-haste, because, let's face it - what other reason is there to live in S.C.?)

My my, how delightfully coincidental. Oh yes, I am very familiar with Aiken. A dear friend from highschool and a current roommate college are from the little town. I think Aiken is hilarious. Did you know they have a town law now where you can turn left on red? There is also an intersection in town of the two streets Whiskey and Easy. Of course, this led to the joke about stop-not-meaning-stop while being on whiskey and easy. And thankfully, I am a carnivore, and enjoy the Souther fare de norm frequently, though not as frequently as I lament the absence of a good sushi bar.

I'm in Groningen, which is about 2 hours from A'dam by train. Drop me a message if you pass by. We've got a "pannenkoekschip" nearby.

Well, I would probably be safe in offering any sort of accommodation, given the likelihood of any MeFites turning up at the Gold Coast, Australia but, if that does happen, I would do my best to squeeze them in for a night.

I will show you around Central Vermont. You can stay for a week and after that I will put you to work painting the barn. I also know a lot about Seattle but am not spending much time there lately. What I need is a couch for me +1 to stay on in Boise next week, if anyone knows anyone.

I've got a couch which is quite comfortable and a fair amount of floor space that is not as comfortable, available upon notice (notice is really, really important, because the room with the couch tends to be covered in various projects and assorted laziness).
The only downside is that all of this stuff is in Houston. (If you've never been, be happy.)

I have an available daybed in the northern reaches of Cincinnati (nowhere near the airport, which is actually in Kentucky), and it's available for anyone who can put up with the stumbling antics of the drunk woman upstairs and the unwelcome advances of my cats.

Can't offer a place to stay (live in my in-laws' attic currently), but if anyone's ever in Nottingham, I can show you around the town -- castle (that is actually a mansion), caves (manmade, not natural), museums, etc.

It's a fabulous place. Come over here!

A very fine idea. I just wish I'd been able to take advantage when I was caught for a place to stay in SB last August...I ended up in the Lemon Tree (1st motel in CA apparently) at $100+ for the night!

This is a doubly fine idea as I'll be back in the US next spring tripping from LA to SF & accross to Tallahassee & up to NYC.

Anyone coming to Brighton will have to wait until we've rebuilt our place (hopefully Oct/Nov) before I can offer a bed ;-)

Ah, the Lemon Tree's right by the beach! Where the beautiful people play volleyball. Shoulda picked the Motel 6 in Goleta, with a view of the bowling alley. You have to *pay* for Paradise, you know.

But do look me up next spring :-)
